Ganning of lambskins
Tanning is an important step in the leather production process, which is of great importance for the durability and quality of the leather. Sheepskins have been used as clothing since the Middle Ages thanks to the tanning process. The techniques used today make it possible to effectively protect the skins of sheep, cows or alpacas. Modern tanning processes guarantee long-lasting protection and suitable wearing properties.
Tanning substances
How are lambskins preserved?
During tanning, various tanning agents are used to give the leather durability and elasticity and to fix its proteins. The process is based on the use of chemical or vegetable tanning agents. Although every plant contains tanning agents, their concentration varies greatly. Chemical tanning agents mimic the natural tanning agents, but give the leather a much longer shelf life than the traditional processes.
MEDICAL TANNING: THE UNIQUE PROPERTIES OF LAMBSKINS
Medical tanning does not refer to the tanning process itself, but to certain applications of the lambskins.Modern tanning processes use synthetic, environmentally friendly substances. This gives lambskins unique properties: they can be washed at high temperatures, are sweat-resistant, antibacterial, anti-allergenic and have self-cleaning properties. Their softness and fluffiness make them ideal for care - as a baby sleeping bag, for beds or to prevent bedsores. Our RELUGAN skins can even be washed at 30°C and retain all these unique properties.
Our medically tanned lambskins are tanned using a gentle process. They are produced without chromates or aluminum triformates. They are therefore ideal for babies, patients with rheumatic disorders, wheelchair users, underbeds, etc.
